Inez Catherine Crane Prendergast
Inez Catherine Crane Prendergast died Friday, November 30, 2012, at the age of 85 following complications from a blood infection. Known as Dolly to her friends and family, she is the wife of the late John Luke Prendergast, Sr., and the daughter of the late Rene Murphy Crane, Sr., and Inez Hagen Crane. She is survived by her brothers Rene Murphy Crane, Jr., and Morell Spencer Crane, Sr. She is the beloved mother of John Luke Prendergast, Jr., and wife, Faye; Carol Prendergast McManus and husband, Neil; Kathleen Prendergast Edwards and husband, Ben; Michael Thomas Prendergast and wife, Allison; and Ann Prendergast Graves and husband, Carl. She is a devoted grandmother of Luke Prendergast, Dan Prendergast, Benjamin Edwards, Lauren McManus Speed, Ian McManus, Dale McManus, Jack Prendergast, Kate Prendergast, Claire Graves, and Parker Graves, and a great grandmother of Arabella Prendergast.
A native New Orleanian, Mrs. Prendergast lived in Metairie for over 50 years until moving to Poydras Home in 2011. She is a former secretary at New Orleans Public Service Company, after attending Newcomb College. She volunteered at WRBH, Radio for the Blind, for several years and is a former member of St. Francis Xavier Church on Metairie Road. Her family would like to thank the staff at Poydras Home for their loving care.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME on Sunday, December 16, at 2:00 PM. Visitation from 12:30 until service time. A private burial service will be held at St. Patrick Cemetery Number One. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Poydras Home Employee Appreciation Fund, 5354 Magazine Street, New Orleans, LA 70115. Miss Inez Catherine Crane and Mr. John Luke Prendergast whose marriage will be and interesting event of this week were entertained Saturday evening at a supper dance at which Mr. and Mrs. George P. Robbins were hosts at the Metairie Country Club. The long U-shaped table, arranged in the rose-room of the club at which the guests were seated for the supper was covered with a lace cloth and decorated with plateaux of white roses and blue delphiniums. Attached to the place cards were tiny silver bells tied with white satin ribbons.

Mrs. Frederick L. Brown was hostess Thursday at a luncheon given in honor of Miss Inez Crane, a bride-elect of this season. The guests included, other than Miss Crane, Mmes. Rene M. Crane, G. E. Prendergast, George Robbins, Michael Pfister, Warren J. Crane, Charles P. George, Theresa Crane Sturdivant, B. A. Boudreaux, R. J. Hagen, M. Judson Crane Jr., and Misses Shirley Crane of San Antonio, Tex., Katherine and Margaret Prendergast, and Lynn Bulliard.

Miss Inez Catherine Crane, daughter fo Mr. and Mrs. Rene Murphy Crane became the bride Saturday of Mr. John Luke Prendergast, son of Mrs. George Prendergast and the late Mr. Prendergast. The Rev. Harry Crane S. J., a cousin of the bride, performed the 11 o'clock ceremony held in the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus. Clusters of white peonies, gladioli and crysanthemums decorated the altar.
Mr. Crane gave his daughter in marriage. The bride's gown was of white satin fashioned with an off-the-shoulder neckline having a yoke of illusion outlined by seed pearls. The sleeves were long. The full skirt which ended in a train, had an overskirt of Chantilly lace. A coronet of orange blossoms held her long veil of illusion. She carried a bouquet of white orchids and lillies of the valley.
Miss Shirley Marie Crane, of San Antonio, Tex. was her cousin's maid of honor and the other attendants were Mrs. Mills Judson Crane Jr., Mrs. William Digherty, of Baton Rouge, La., Mrs. Michael Pfister, Miss Katherine Prendergast, a sister of the bridegroom, Misses Lynne Bulliard and Cynthia Robbins, both cousins of the bride. Miss Crane and Miss Robbins wore dresses of white taffeta fashioned with small berthas, long sleeves, full skirts. They carried bouquets of red carnations and stephanotis.
The other attendants wore gowns made on similar lines as that of the maid of honor with the exception of the berthas which formed the sleeves. Their bouquets were also of red carnations and stephanotis.
Mr. Charles P. George of Brunswick, Ga., was the best man, and the groomsmen were Messers. Rene M. Crane, Jr., a brother of the bride; Eugene Frische, Joseph Cangelosi, Anthony LaBarber, Stanley Garlipied, Morell S. Crane, Charles Peyronnin, Irwin Isaacson and J. B. Trask.
A reception followed the ceremony at the home of the bride's mom, Mrs. George P. Robbins, Jr., and Mr Robbins on Napoleon ave. The reception rooms were decorated with white blooms and smilax. Mrs. Crane received her guests in a beige colored crepe worn with black velvet accessories and a white orchid corsage bouquet. Mrs. Prendergast, mother of the bridegroom, was receiving in a gown of royal blue crepe and she too, wore a carsage bouquet of white orchids. Also in the receiving line were Mrs. Robbins, Mrs. Richard J. Hagen, maternal grandmother of the bride, and the latter's paternal grandmother Mrs. Warren J. Crane.
Later in the evening the young couple left on a trip. The bride wore a black velvet suit trimmed with pale pink beads and seed pearls on the peplum of the jacket. Her hat was of pink velvet and her accessories of black velvet.
The bride attended Newcomb college, where she was a member of Phi My Sorority. Her mother was before her marriage Miss Inez Hagen.
Mr. Prendergast, whose mother is the former Miss Agnes Barr, is a graduate of Tulane university, and is a member of Tau Beta Pi national honorary engineering fraternity.
