Miss Hannah Abide Becomes the Bride of Mr. Norman J. Nolan
A gown of candlelight satin and rose point was chosen Tuesday, November 22 by Miss Hannah Dorothy Abide as she became the bride of Mr. Norman Joseph Nolan in a ceremony that took place at the St. Leo the Great church in New Orleans.
The dress was fashioned with a lace bertha and a front lace skirt that were both beaded with seed pearls. The black and side satin overskirt extended into a train.
A satin cloche which had a lace tiara beaded with seed pearls held in place her fingertip veil. Three white orchids surrounded by lillies of the valley was carried by the bride with a rosary and a mother-of-pearl prayerbook to complete the bridal costume.
The ceremony took place in a setting of white gladioli, chrysanthemums and palms. The 11 o'clock nuptial mass was performed by Rev. Gillespie.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Abide of New Orleans, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph N. Nolan of Baton Rouge.
Serving the bride as her maid of honor was her sister, Miss Mimi Abide. Miss Irene Nolan, and Miss Rita Nolan, sister of the groom, and Miss Rosemary Abide, another sister of the bride, were the bridesmaids.
The bridesmaids' gowns were of emerald green satin with Victorian necklines, three-quarter length sleeves and very full skirts. The maid of honor wore a gold satin dress made on lines identical to those of the bridesmaids' dresses. All the young women wore small hats of matching satin and short white kid gloves. Their bouquets were cascades of bronze chrysanthemums and autumn leaves.
Mr. Eugene Nolan, brother of the groom, was best man. Ushers were Mr. Fred Hannie, Mr. Bobby Manziel, of Taylor, Tex., Mr. Wade W. Shibley, and Messrs. Ellis and A. J. Abide, brothers of the bride.
Following the ceremony a buffet breakfast was held in the crystal room of the New Orleans Athletic club. Champagne and punch were served during the reception.
The bride's table was covered with a white Madeira and lace linen cloth, with silver candlelabra at either end. The wedding cake was of three tiers, and white gardenias were arranged on the table.
The bride's mother wore a blue crepe dress with matching hat and an orchid corsage. The groom's mother was in a plum colored dress with iridescent beading at the neckline. She wore a dusty rose hat with beaded trim, and an orchid corsage.
For traveling the bride wore a three-piece grey suit with red beaver hat and matching grey accessories. The couple left for Miami, Fla., and Havana, Cuba, on their wedding trip. They will return to make their home at 2239 Tuilip St.
The bride attended Loyola University. The groom attended LSU and is now in business here.
The couple had been honored at a cocktail party following the rehearsal Monday night. On Sunday night Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Manziel and Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Samaha, brothers-in-law and sisters of the groom, entertained at the Roosevelt hotel for the bridal party and out-of-town guests.
