'Desk and Derrick Club' Organized
A club composed of girls connected with the oil industry is being formed in New Orleans.
Called the "Desk and Derrick Club," it is open to all girls "behind the men who in one way or another contribute to the production of oil." It was formed by a group of girls representing twelve oil and affiliated companies of New Orleans.
The scope of the club in its once-a-month meetings ranges from social to instructive gatherings.
First president of the club is Miss Inez Awtry, Humble Oil and Refining Company; vice-president, Mrs. Bettie Conley, William Helis; secretary, Miss Amelia Abide, Gulf Refining Company, and treasurer, Mrs. Amelia Crandell, The Texas Company.

When the 1300 delagates to the fifth annual convention of the Association of Desk and Derrick Clubs meet in New Orleans next Thursday, Friday and Saturday, someone is bound to ask, "who started this, anyhow?"

Amelia "Mimi" Abide Prats, beloved wife of Albert A. Prats for 46 years, departed this life peacefully on Thursday, May 24, 2007. Born in Greenwood, MS and a lifelong resident of New Orleans, LA. Daughter of the late Rasheed and Mary Kelley Abide. Sister of Matilda Abide Shibley, Rosemary Abide Benitez, the late Adele Abide Joseph, Hannah Abide Nolan, Ellis R. Abide, Sr. and Abraham J. Abide. Sister-in-law of Margaret Abide. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 2:00 PM. Visitation Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 noon until funeral time. Internment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.

In lieu of usual remembrances contributions to your favorite charity are preferred.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, and burial will take place 5/29/2007.
