Obituary, E. P. Connelly.
Emery Platt Connelly was born at Westfield, in Coles county, Illinois, on Thursday, September 11, 1856.
He departed this life Thursday morning, January 22, 1931, age 74 years, four months and 11 days.
He spent the early years of his life in Westfield, and when a young man he united with the United
Brethren church at that place.
He was united in marriage to Jennie Elizabeth Evans on Thursday, March 14, 1878. She preceded him:
in death on Thursday, November 14, 1929, fourteen months ago. To this union were born thirteen children,
all of whom are living. In addition Mr. Connelly is survived by twenty-nine grandchildren, one great grand-
child, three sisters and four brothers.
The children are Wirt, Arthur, Ira, Ernest and Homer Connelly, Mrs. Nina McIlvoy, Mrs. Inez Cullison and
Mrs. Olive May Fahrner of Wellston, Clyde Connelly of Oklahoma City; Mrs. Mabel Bailey and Ralph Connelly of Cleveland; and Kenneth and Blanche Connelly of Edmond. The sisters are Mrs. Ione McConnell, Cadiz. Ohio: Mrs. Olive Lambert, Rockville, Ind.; and Mrs. Leigh Arnold. Chicago, Ill. The brothers are Malden Connelly of Everett, Wash;: Ed and Willis Connelly of'Canada; and Ellis Connelly Westfield, Ill.
Mr. and Mrs. Connelly came to Lincoln county, Oklahoma in 1893, enduring the hardships of the early
pioneer life, and he remained a resident of the county for nearly 38 years.
Mr..Connely was always an active citizen of the community. For a number of years he was president of
the Wellston District fair association and for a few years president of the Lincoln County Fair association.
He served for a few years as a member of the Wellston township board, and through many years as a member of the Spring Valley school district board and was instrumental in the merging of that district with the Wellston and adjoining districts into the Wellston Consolidated district, and was a member of the board of education of the. latter district at the time this present school building was constructed.
He was a member of the Farmer's Union. the Oklahoma Cotton Growers association and the. Anti-Thief
association. A successful farmer, he was also a breeder of fine stock taking many prizes with his exhibits
at the district and county fairs.
He was always a friend to the person in trouble, giving both of his time and money in helping the one:
seeking aid. He was kind to his children, and until his declining health which began. prior to Mrs. Connolly's death. keenly enjoyed having his grandchildren about him.
Mr. Connelly was laid to rest beside Mrs. Connelly in Wellston cemetery. His eight sons acted as pall
bearers, performing the same duty as they did for their mother.
The services were conducted Sunday, January 25, 1931, at the family residence one mile south of Weeston. Rev. H. L. Cloud, formerly a pastor at Wellston, officiated in the service.
