Note: A biography of Morris Carothers in a history of Clark County, Illinois, gives Morris' first wife's name as Anna Hanna; other sources show her name as Anna Hall. Also, there is an IGI record for a marriage to Nancy Morrell in about 1841; according to the biography, this is may be an error.

In the census for 1860 Illinois, Clark County, Parker Twp, there were some children listed in Morris Carothers' household that are often included in lists of his children. They are almost certainly children of Angeline's from her previous marriage; their names and ages as of 1860 are Elisabeth, age 18; Andrew J, age 14; Rebecca Ann, age 12; James W, age 8. These children were NOT in his household as of the 1850 census. To make it more confusing, Morris did have a son named Andrew Jackson, who was listed on 1860 census as "Jackson", age 17. James W is a close call: he was 8 as of June 30, 1860, making his date of birth approximately July 1851 to June 1852; Angeline was widowed September 1, 1851 and married Morris on March 25, 1852; James W could be Morris' son if Angeline was pregnant when they married. Since James W is not listed in a biography of Morris', I would consider that he was Angeline's son from her previous marriage.
