Brown-Durnin Wedding Held At Church
NEW ORLEANS '97- Miss Mary Katherine Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Wood Brown Jr, and Mr. Douglas Kent Durnin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Kent Durnin of Baton Rouge, were married Saturday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Ralph Kimball officiated at the 3 o'clock ceremony.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length gown of gossamer white organza. Single bands of venice lace fashioned the high neck and empire bodice, while matching bands of same lace trimmed the hem and the deep cuffed billowy sleeves. The simple A shaped skirt was accented with venice lace motifs
and gathered to back fullness forming a chapel sweep train. Her long mantilla of imported silk illusion was strewn with similar lace motifs and attained to a slightly raised crown. She carried a round bouquet of white sweetheart roses, lilies of the valley and stephanotis.
Miss Diana Blair Brown was her sister's maid of honor. Matron of honor was Mrs. Jefferson Young. Other bridal attendants were Misses Mary Bryan Pugh of Baton Rouge, and Blair Bennett of Dothan, Ala.
The flower girl was little Jennifer Mathiesen.
The attendants wore floor length gowns of turquoise linen. Venice lace formed a manderin collar and continued down the front. Venice lace trimmed the edges, arm holes and matching bow and streamers formed
back interest. They carried round bouquets of yellow sweetheart roses and daisies.
Mr. Alex Kent Durnin served his son as best man. Groomsmen and ushers were Messrs. Newton Thomas of Baton Rouge, Frank Breege III of Monroe; Richard Hruska of New Orleans, Terry Durnin of
Baton Rouge, Jerry Durnin of Baton Rouge, George Madison of Bastrop, and Timothy Lindsley Ill of Thibodaux.
Immediately following the ceremony, a reception was held at an uptown center for the immediate families and closest friends.
For traveling the bride wore a pale blue and white linen dress and matching coat, and a white hybrid orchid Corsage.
The couple will reside in Baton Rouge.

Durnin, Mary Katherine "Kathy"
Mary Katherine Durnin, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, passed away on April 22, 2015, at the age of 67. Kathy is survived by her adoring husband, Douglas, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Brown of Baton Rouge, her sister, Diana Brown Offner, and brother-in-law, Theodore Offner, and her daughters, Diana of New Orleans and Leslie of Chicago.

She graduated from LSU in 1970 with a degree in sociology and, later in life, continued her unending quest for knowledge by pursuing advanced courses in landscape design. She found her soulmate and partner for life at the age of 20, when she married Douglas Kent Durnin in New Orleans, Louisiana. Kathy was the consummate entrepreneur, having started several successful businesses in Baton Rouge including Custom Linens. Kathy's tenacity and passion extended far beyond her professional endeavors through her love of horticulture and her unending commitment to her family, friends and faith. She was an active and dedicated member of St. Luke's Church, the Junior League, Les Jeunes Dames, and her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. She will always be remembered as a trusted friend, visionary business woman, inspiring mother, and revered mentor. When Kathy was not dedicating her immense talents to family and work, she enjoyed exploring the world with her "partner in crime", Doug.
On Monday, April 27, visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by services at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. All are welcome to attend and take part in celebrating Kathy's life.
