Durnin, Mary Katherine "Kathy"
Mary Katherine Durnin, beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, passed away on April 22, 2015, at the age of 67. Kathy is survived by her adoring husband, Douglas, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Brown of Baton Rouge, her sister, Diana Brown Offner, and brother-in-law, Theodore Offner, and her daughters, Diana of New Orleans and Leslie of Chicago.
Kathy was born in Mobile, Alabama, on March 29, 1948, to Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Brown. She graduated from LSU in 1970 with a degree in sociology and, later in life, continued her unending quest for knowledge by pursuing advanced courses in landscape design. She found her soulmate and partner for life at the age of 20, when she married Douglas Kent Durnin in New Orleans, Louisiana. Kathy was the consummate entrepreneur, having started several successful businesses in Baton Rouge including Custom Linens. Kathy's tenacity and passion extended far beyond her professional endeavors through her love of horticulture and her unending commitment to her family, friends and faith. She was an active and dedicated member of St. Luke's Church, the Junior League, Les Jeunes Dames, and her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. She will always be remembered as a trusted friend, visionary business woman, inspiring mother, and revered mentor. When Kathy was not dedicating her immense talents to family and work, she enjoyed exploring the world with her "partner in crime", Doug.
On Monday, April 27, visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. followed by services at 11 a.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. All are welcome to attend and take part in celebrating Kathy's life.
