William Allen Broughton, 77, passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, in Fort Worth. Memorial service: Was held Jan. 26 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring.

Allen was born Jan. 12, 1939, to Hugh and Betty Broughton in Kansas City, Kan. They moved shortly after to Pasadena, Texas, where he was raised and attended Kruse Elementary, Jackson Junior High and Pasadena High schools. He was a financial entrepreneur his entire career. He traveled the world, visiting many cities including Hong Kong, London and Rome. He was known for his positive attitude, no matter his financial circumstances. He loved fine restaurants and wine. He traveled the U.S. on business and pleasure to all the major cities. You could call him and ask where to stay or eat wherever you were going, and he would tell his favorite eatery or hotel to stay in.
Allen loved his three children, his 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. During his final years, he enjoyed gardening and preparing meals at home with his loving partner, Lea. Allen was an ordained minister and in his early years served several churches. Throughout his life he was well known as an effective preacher and excellent Bible teacher. More recently he served as the Bible teacher for the Empty Nesters/Accomplishments Sunday School Class at Aledo United Methodist Church in Aledo.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Betty Broughton; and sister, Eleanor Langeman. Survivors: Brother, Robert "Bob" Broughton; partner, Lea; son, Keith Durrett; daughters, Daphne Swindle and Karri Broughton; grandchildren, Tiffany, Aaron, Colin and Danielle Durrett; daughter-in-law, Cindy Durrett; grandchildren, Rebecca, Jacob, Sarah and Hannah Sanford, Josh, Jade, Elizabeth, Adam, Maggie and Noah Swindle; great-grandchildren, Laura and Maddie Roots, Ava Swindle and Ava Sanford; and beloved dogs, Shelly and Mr. Butler. Allen will be especially missed by his longtime friends, Don Little of Fort Worth and Dr. Aubrey D. Sharpe and Linda Sharpe of Tyler.
