Joan Silbernagel Chaplain Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Joan Silbernagel Chaplain, age 84, who passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday, August 2. She was born September 1, 1940, in New Orleans, attended the Academy of Holy Angels, graduating in 1957, and has lived in River Ridge since 1968. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Albert Charles Chaplain Jr.; her son, Stephen E. Chaplain Sr.; her parents, Charles Louis Silbernagel Sr. and Louise Berry Silbernagel; brothers, Sidney Campo, Allen Silbernagel, Charles Silbernagel Jr.; and her sister, Audrey Silbernagel. Joan devoted her life to her family and is survived by her children, Gwynne M. Chaplain, Albert C. Chaplain III (Cheryl), Beth C. Myer (Wayne), and David M. Chaplain (Amanda). She was the loving grandmother of Stephen Chaplain Jr., Sydney Faucheaux (TJ), John Dawes, Lindsey Boudin (Matt), Olivia and Emma Myer, and Daisy Chaplain. She was the great-grandmother of Gracelynn and Reece Chaplain, Reese and Thomas Faucheaux, and Charles Boudin. She held a special place in her heart for Sarah, Josh, James, Jack, Bryan, Finley, and Tessa. Joan is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mudean C. Bulot, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the doctors at LCMC ER, the Neuro ICU team at LCMC, cardiologist Dr. Saxena, and his staff for the exceptional care for Joan. We would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Joseph's Capenter Hospice House in River Ridge for their compassionate care of their mother.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial mass at St. Matthew the Apostle Church, 10021 Jefferson Highway, River Ridge, on Friday, August 8, at 11:30 am. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am until Mass time. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692 or the Woman's New Life Clinic, 4612 S. Claiborne Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70125.
