SUSIE LONG

Mary Susan Wells, third daughter of Richard and Clarinda Wells, was born in Harrison county, Missouri on December 23, 1870, and departed this life at her home, 618 N. Main Street, Chariton, Iowa, on Tuesday, February 4, 1946, at the age of 75 years, one month and 12 days.

She was united in marriage to Abraham Lincoln Long, of Russell, Iowa, at Bethany, Mo., on March 4, 1890. To this union eight children were born, one of whom, Lester, died in infancy.

Those surviving are: Mrs. Lenora Daugherty of Chariton; Mrs. Cleora Matthews of Detroit, Michigan; Mrs. Fannie Beadle of Whitetail, Montana; Mrs. Cassie Harmegnies of Chariton, Loren Long and Lloyd Long of near Russell; and Eva Long, of Chicago, Ill. Her husband preceded her in death June 17, 1944.

Her entire married life was spent on a farm near Russell except for one year living in Chariton in 1922. They went back to the farm and remained there until 1943 when they sold the farm to their eldest son, Loren, and located in Chariton.

Mrs. Long has been in failing health for some time but was able to be about until six weeks ago. She was a patient sufferer. She was a devoted wife and mother and numbered her friends by her acquaintances.

Besides her seven children she leaves 13 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Dora Everett of New Hampton, Mo.; Mrs. Ellen Noble of Chariton and Mrs. Rose Morton of near Russell to mourn her death. She united with the church in girlhood.

Well attended funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. E. Beals, of Russell, assisted by Rev. Chas. Holton, were held at the Bethel church at two o'clock, Thursday afternoon, February 7, and burial was in the Bethel cemetery beside her husband.

The pall bearers were her six grandsons.
