Newell S. Timmons, 85, 403 Maple Street, died at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999 at Monticello Healthcare Center. He was born on April 13, 1913 in Round Grove to George and Gertrude Schuyler Timmons. He married to Virginia Guard in Delphi on March 28, 1937. She survives. He was a graduate of Wolcott High School and also attended Purdue University, where he was an active alumnus.
His farming career in Round Grove and Chalmers fostered his research alliance with Purdue University in developing hybrid popcorn seed and his involvement in the initiation of White County Fair. He was a retired White County farmer and civic leader. He served on the White County Council, where he served 14 years; the Wabash Valley Hospital Founding Board; was active as Republican Chairman; and the License Branch manager in Monticello.
He was also chairman of the State ASCS office. He was a member of the Indiana State Fair Board, Monticello Parks Board, the John Purdue Club, White County Shrine, Monticello Moose and Masonic Lodges, Lafayette Elks Club, Indianapolis Scottish Rite and Merou Grotto in West Lafayette. He was a member of the Chalmers Community Church. He was named "Sagamore of the Wabash" by the Governor. He developed Western Heights Subdivision in Monticello. He was a delegate of the Republican state and national conventions.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Glen of Indianapolis and Don of Nokomis, Florida; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A sister is deceased.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, with Pastor Bill Henderson officiating. Visitation will be 6 -8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Tippecanoe Memorial Gardens cemetery, West Lafayette. Memorials may be made to the Chalmers Community Church. (Published in the Monticello Harold)

GUARD - TIMMONS
CHALMERS, March 30\'97Mr. and Mrs. Dan Guard announce the marriage of their eldest daughter, Virginia Lucille, to Newell Schuyler Timmons, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Timmons of Brookston R. R. 1. The single ring wedding ceremony was performed Easter morning at 8:30 at the Presbyterian church in Delphi, the Rev. Harry Parker officiating. Attendants were Miss Esther Oilar and Herbert Harmon of Brookston.
The bride wore a street length dress of rose gray with navy accessories and a corsage bouquet of
gardenias and roses. Mrs. Timmons is a graduate of Chalmers high school, class of 1935. Mr. Timmons is a graduate of Wolcott high school and attended Purdue university.
A wedding breakfast was served at the home of the bride's parents. The table was covered with a white linen cloth and a beautifully decorated tiered wedding cake formed the centerpiece.
After a short trip they will reside south of Wolcott, where the groom is engaged in farming.
