JEAN STONECYPHER SCLAFANI
Jean Stonecypher Sclafani, owner of Sclafani's Restaurant, died Sunday of pancreatitis at Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital. She was 53. Mrs. Sclafani was a lifelong resident of New Orleans. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy and Loyola University. She taught at Jean Gordon Elementary School in Orleans Parish and St. Angela Merici Catholic School in Metairie. She was co-founder of the Eastern Governmental Action League, a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority and a former member of several Carnival organizations. Survivors include her husband, Peter Joseph Sclafani Jr.; two sons, Gino Earl and Peter Joseph Sclafani III; her father, Earl Stonecypher; her mother, Elise Bordes Stonecypher; two sisters, Joan and Jane Stonecypher; and three grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at noon at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home Chapel, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. Visitation will begin Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Lake Lawn Park Cemetery
