Skelly's Daughter Is Married; City Blasts Salute To Bride
The whistles blew and they blew and they blew on the river today, not because of any trouble, but because
Miss Margaret Skelly, daughter of Commissioner Joseph Patrick Skelly, popular Algiers councilman, was being united in the bonds of holy matrimony to Theophile Hotard, Jr., in the little red brick Holy Name of Mary church on the west bank.
And because, after the ceremony, the ferries were crowded with thousands of gay wedding guests steaming to the New Orleans side for the all-day reception at Tip Top Inn.
Church Crowded
"Thousands" is no exaggeration. More than 1000 crowded into the tiny church, blocking all but the main aisle which was beautifully decorated with calla lilies and baby's breath and other spring flowers; and many more than a thousand overflowed into the street outside, craning their necks when the bride passed for a glimpse of the new Mrs. Hotard.
Commissioner Skelly had sent out 2,000 personal invitations, and then fearing that he may have missed
other friends, issued a blanket invitation to:the wedding through the press.
Mayor Attends
Dignitaries, friends, political and social were prominent at the ceremony. Mayor Maestri and other members of the council were in attendance. The altar was decorated with Easter and calla lilies and sprays of spring flowers and ferns.
Dressed in a wedding gown fashioned on the princess line, made of white imported super de foie, its
front and two rear panels embroidered in flowers, and wearing a beautiful tulle veil and a coronet of live
orange blossoms, Miss Skelly entered on the arm of her father, walking up the aisle as the organ boomed.
The nuptial Mass and the marriage ceremony was performed by the Rev. Winter Luckett, S. M., assistant pastor of the church.
The bridesmaids were chiefly members of the Skelly and Hotard families, the Misses Patricia Skelly
(maid-of honor) Florence and Betty Skelly, Jane and Lillian Hotard, sisters of the groom, and Mrs. Joseph D'Antoni, first daughter of the commissioner, to whose wedding her father likewise invited all friends through the press, was matron of honor.
Honeymoon in Panama
The bridesmaids were dressed in rainbow color net, and carried harmonizing bouquets of spring flowers and wore wide brimmed leghorn hats.
The groomsmen, in white linens, were Roland Clark, Skelly Wright, Dr. Joseph D'Antoni, Foster Hotard,
James Skelly, Miles Morrison and George Christy.
Eager for souvenirs of the city's most extensive wedding in recent years, guests by the scores helped
themselves to lilies and ferns from the standards ranged along the aisle, bringing bouquets of varying sizes away from the church.
Motorcycle police held back the crowds to permit the newlyweds to leave the church: then, escorted by
the policemen, the procession started for the city, as the ferries, with an extra boat pressed into service.
plied busily back and forth.
Following the cars of the bridal party went Mayor Maestri, a special guest at the wedding; mem

The marriage of Miss Margaret Agnes Skelly, daughter of Commissioner and Mrs. Joseph P. Skelly, to Mr. Theophile O. Hotard. Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs Theophile 0. Hotard, was celebrated this morning at 9 o'clock Mass at the Holy Name of Mary church in Algiers before a large gathering of relatives and friends. Reverend Father Luckett officiated.
Quantities of white calla lilies were used as decorations in the church, which was lighted with white burning tapers held in tall candelabra.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a beautiful gown of white super de soie over white satin. It had a voluminous skirt on which were appliques of rare old lace. The skirt formed a long train, and the bodice had long sleeves and a V-shaped neckline The full tulle veil was held to a coronet of natural orange blossoms, and she carried a white prayer book from which fell a spray of orchids and lilies of the valley.
Miss Jane Patricia Skelly was her sister's maid of honor, while Mrs. Joseph D'Antoni, also a sister, was
matron of honor, and the other sisters, Misses Betty and Florence Skelly, and Lillian and Jane Hotard, sisters of the groom, were bridesmaids. They wore pretty frocks of net in the various pastel shades and carried bouquets of spring flowers matching their gowns.
Mr. Roland Clark was best man. The groomsmen were Messrs. George Christy, James Skelly. brother of the bride; Foster Hotard, brother of the groom; Dr. Joseph D'Antoni, J. Skelly Wright and Miles Morrison.
A large reception followed the ceremony in the Tip Top Inn of the Roosevelt hotel, which was massed
with exquisite spring blooms. Mrs. Skelly, wearing a handsome gown of blue lace with flesh accessories, received with the groom's mother, Mrs. Hotard, who was in a becoming gown of blue and white chiffon,
worn with white accessories.
Mr. Hotard and his bride sailed for Havana and on their return will be at home in Bodenger Boulevard,
Algiers.
