MICKAL HOME IS SCENE THURSDAY OF LOVELY RECEPTION
Miss Lois Mildred Barnes, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Chesly Barnes of Hamburg, Arkansas, who on May 23rd will become the bride of Dr. Abe Mickal of McComb, Miss., and West Point, New York, Dr. Mickal, and Sydney Abdalla
who was called to the colors, were guests of honor at a reception given Thursday evening at the attractive K. Mickal home on Edger Street.
The reception rooms of the home had been decorated with pretty seasonable flowers, including white Easter lilies and pansies. In the dining room the colors of blue, pink, and white were used, the table being covered with an imported white eyelet cloth and centered with the beautiful three-tiered cake. Flowers were sweet peas, pansies, and Queen Anne's lace, and white candles in crystal candelabra completed the table decorations.
Miss Barnes, the bride-elect wore a white eyelet frock with a corsage of pink carnations. She was presented a beautiful string of pearls by Dr. Mickal.
Mr. Abdalla, who left for Camp Shelby Frlday morning, was also presented a gift, and a special cake had been made for him.
The cake for Miss Barnes and Dr. Mickal was cut by scabbard and blade, a trophy presented Dr. Mickal in his R.O.T.C. work, which will also be used to cut the bridal cake following the military wedding at West Point May 23rd.
Delicious cake and ice cream were served during the evening to the guests.
About seventy-five persons called during the evening to greet Miss Barnes, Dr. Mickal, and Mr. Abdalla.
A guest at supper, other than the guests of honor and members of the Mickal family, was Miss Katherine McCarthy.

Abe Mickal and Miss Lois Barnes Wed at West Point

Miss Lois Mildred Barnes, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Lewis Chesley Barnes of Hamburg, Arkansas, was married to Lieutenant Abe Mickal, son of Mr. and Mrs. K. Mickal of McComb, Mississippi in the military manner and traditions of West Point. Chaplain J. B. Walthour officiated in the double ring ceremony
which was held in the cadet chapel of the United States Military Academy.
Immediately following the ceremony a large reception given by Lieut. Col. and Mrs. Lawrence "Biff" Jones was held at Cullum Hall.
Lt. Col. "Biff" Jones former coach (football) of the groom at Louisiana State University escorted the bride to the altar, The bride wore a gown of ivory satin
with gathered bodice and full train. Her lace and net veil of illusion fell from a tiara of shirred net embroidered in tiny pearls and her only ornament was a string of pearls, gift of the groom's family.
Miss Virginia Barnes of Washington. D. C.; sister of the bride was matron of honor. Her circular skirted gown was of lavender organdy and lace. The brides-
maids were Miss Edna Mickal sister of the groom; Miss Barbara Jones, daughter of Lt. Col. and Mrs. Jones; Mrs. George M. Schwab. and Mrs. C. H. Letzelter. All the attendants were dressed in pastel shades and carried
matching bouquets of spring flowers. The bride's bouquet was of Calla lilies.
Lt. George W. Scwab of Baton Rouge, La. and West Point, an old classmate of the groom was best man. The ushers were Major C. J. Letzelter, Major H. J.
Jablessky, Lt. Frank E. Moore, Lt. Harold Gist, and Mr. Martinez.
After a wedding trip to New York the bride and groom are residing at West Point, where Lt. Mickal is medical officer in charge of cadet athletics in connection with his flight surgeon duties.
The bride attended Arkansas A. & M. College at Monticello, Ark., where she was a member of the Phi Phi sorority. Lt. Michal was graduated from the
undergraduate school of Louisiana State University in 1936 and the medical school in 1940. He served his internship at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans. The groom was a campus leader at L. S. U., member of scholastic and leadership fraternities and was especially outstanding in the football world, being member of All Southern and All-American selections during 1934 and 1935.
