ROPER Edward Louis Roper, a retired Illinois Central Railroad Carman, passed away at his residence on Friday, November 23, 2012 at the age of 85. Beloved husband of Pearl Delaune Roper for 63 years.
Son of the late Cleveland and Lucia Roper. Loving father of Gaynell Cook and Glenn Edward Roper, and father in law of Terri N. Roper and the late Mark "Chip" Cook. Brother of Lucille Perret, John "J.C." Roper and the late Cleveland "Junior" Roper, Charles "Joe" Roper, Edgar Roper and Marie Louise Wisinski. Also survived by 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Mr. Roper served in both the U.S. Navy from 1945-1946 and the U. S. Army from 1950-1952. Known as "Uncle Eddie" by many, he was loved and appreciated for his special cookies and "Paw-Paw cake" and was frequently seen in his early retirement years in his driveway making woodcraft cut outs for local artists.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at St. Ann Church and Shrine, 3601 Transcontinental Drive, Metairie, La. on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be at the church from 11:30 a.m. until service time. In lieu of flowers, Masses or donations to the National Kidney Foundation preferred.
