Obituary

Rosa Mae Poché Richardson, 91, born May 22, 1920, passed away peacefully on the morning of Monday, November 21, 2011, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Baton Rouge. Originally from Lutcher, she graduated from Lutcher High School in 1936, after which she completed a degree in pharmacy at Loyola University in New Orleans. In 1940, she moved to Convent, LA, where she worked as a pharmacist. After a brief stint working in Jennings, she then moved to Baton Rouge, where, while living in a boarding house downtown and working at Griffon's Drug Store, she met her future husband, Murphy Richardson. They married upon his return from the South Pacific in 1944, and settled into a house in Baton Rouge, where they lived together for sixty-six years and raised six children. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and a fine cook who took great joy in daily family life. She remained active and involved in her family's lives all of her days, and especially enjoyed the company of her Shih Tzu, Prissy. She was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish for more than sixty years.
She is survived by her two brothers and their spouses: Dr. Carl and Mrs. Myrhh Poché, and Donald and Priscilla Poché; five children and their spouses, Katheleen and Daryl Mark Hubbs, of Rowlett, Texas, Margaret Richardson Sanz, Dr. Daniel and Mrs. Bonnie Baker Richardson, Doug and Cathi Trahan Richardson, all of Baton Rouge, and Rose and Dr. Sid DeRouen, of New Iberia; sisters-in-law Irene Poché and Tracy Poché; seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Murphy E. Richardson; her parents, Paulin Jean and Ophelia Brignac Poché; five siblings, Patrick, Paul, Shirley Ann, Glynn Joseph, and Raymond J. Poché; and her son and daughter-in-law, Michael Eugene Richardson and Nancy Shaw Richardson.
Pallbearers will be Daryle, David, Judah, Ethan, Taylor, and Austin Richardson, and Blake Sanz. Honorary pallbearers will be Brother Martin Mary, and Carl and Donald Poché.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 22, from 5-9 pm at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Boulevard, with a recitation of the rosary at 7 pm. Visitation continues at Sacred Heart Church, 2250 Main Street, on Wednesday from 10-11 am, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Interment will follow at Carter Plantation Cemetery in Springfield, Louisiana.
