Desmond Francis Perschall, 74, died Wednesday October 19th at Ochsner Baptist Hospital after a brief illness.
He is survived by his beloved and loving family, his wife of 50 years Karen Danna Perschall, his sons Beau and Adam Perschall, his daughter Amanda Mundee and his inlaw family, Kathleen, Caroline and Ian. He is also survived by his six wonderful grandchildren, Clayton, Madeline, Isabelle, Aidan, Amelie and Skylar and his brother Don Perschall as well as loving friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Francis (Frank) and Bonnie Jean Perschall and his sister Sandra McClendon.
A lifelong resident of New Orleans he graduated from the New Orleans Academy and received his undergraduate and Masters degree in Architecture from Tulane University. As a partner in Pelias, Thieneman, Perschall, Architects as well as later in his own firm, Perschall and Associates Architects he was among the early developers of condominiums in the New Orleans area. The first condominium conversion in the city of The Octavia Apartments was a project of Pelias, Thieneman, Perschall and Mr. Perschall developed the first fee simple town house condominiums on Prytania Street. He owned Coliseum Construction Company and in 1981 he established Acadian Millwork and Supply Company and was the principal partner and President. He was instrumental in creating the Louisiana Furniture Association and was the first head of that group. In 2003 he began Perschall Design with his son.
He loved being with his family and friends, traveling and fishing. Family and friends are invited to a visitation Friday, October 28th at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home in New Orleans between 10am and noon.
