Marriage Notes

Per The Hammond Vindicator Hammond, La. 1/20/1977
Richardson, Lard vows said during family ceremony
Miss Linda Lorraine Richardson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Richardson of Springfield and Mr. Alan Douglas Lard, son of Mrs. M. F. Lard of Holden and the late Mr. Lard were united in marriage on December 31, 1976.
The quiet family ceremony took place at the home of the bride-groom's mother at 5:30 in the afternoon.
Performing the double-ring ceremony was the Rev. Rodrick E. Conerly of Holden, assisted by the Rev. C. F. Pryor of Springfield.
Mrs. Maurice Robinson Jr., of Hammond, played selections on the piano and
accompanied Mrs. James Dykes of Ponchatoula who sang "I Believe", "There
Is Love", and ".We've Only Just Begun."
The couple was married before a fireplace flanked on either side with baskets of blue and white gladioli. White candelabra held lighted pale blue candles for the candlelight ceremony.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a floor-length, sleeveless gown of white Quiana styled with a V-neckline and a flared skirt. The bodice was caught at the waistline with two pale blue buttons. Over the slim gown she wore a full-length hooded cape of ice-white chiffon edged with white lace with pale blue satin insert. Her outfit was made by her mother.
She carried a cascade bouquet or pale blue carnations, white roses and baby's breath centered with a white cymbidium orchid.
Her "something borrowed and blue" was an earring and necklace set of diamonds and sapphires borrowed from Mrs. Warren Fortenberry of Holden. For "something old" she carried a lace-edged handkerchief which belonged to the late Mrs. Rosie Hayden, bridegroom's grandmother, and Mrs. Gene
Hayden lent her a sixpence.
Only attendant to the bride was Miss Diane Patterson of Springfield. She wore a floor-length gown in blue and beige striped silk, trimmed with ruffled beige lace at the hemline and at the round neckline. A matching cape, trimmed in the lace, covered her shoulders. In her hair she wore miniature blue carnations with baby's breath and her bouquet was of the same
flowers.
The groom had as his best man and only attendant, Mr. Terry Hayden of Holden. They both were light blue tuxedos.
Following the ceremony was a reception. Mrs. Richardson received in a street-length knit in blue stripes worn with a matching jacket. The mother of the groom assisted her, wearing a dusty blue jersey street-length dress. Both wore a corsage of blue carnations.
The reception rooms were decorated with bouquets of pale blue carnations, white Chrysanthemums, blue and white gladioli and greenery.
A friend of the couple, Mr. Warren Fortenberry, created their three-tier
wedding cake in white, trimmed in pale blue. There was also a chocolate groom's cake.
Mmes. Gene Hayden, James Lard, Warren Fortenberry, Margaret Cinko and
Mrs. Charles Davis assisted at the reception.
The couple left later in the evening on their wedding trip to Biloxi, Miss. The bride wore a dark green blazer and gauche pants ensemble. Her blouse, in a coordinating paisley print, her dark brown boots and purse completed her outfit. On her shoulder was pinned her white cymbidium orchid.
They will make their home in Houma.
The bride is a graduate of Springfield High School and was employed at the First Guaranty Bank. The groom graduated from Holden High and William Carey College. He is now employed with the Board of Health in Terrebonne Parish.
