Yes, that's the right couple. I recently ordered and received the Civil War Widow's pension that America Hayes Miller McKee filed, claiming that James H. Miller had died as a result of injuries from the war. I also received the claim made by Ida Miller Bennett. But James H. Miller wasn't actually dead, and the claim was denied. It seems he started another family in another state. I don't know if America didn't know about this family, or she was mislead about his death. (IMPORTANT-- PLEASE DON'T PUT THIS ON YOUR TREE!!!! I HOPE YOU WILL UNDERSTAND. I'm telling you this so you will understand why I need this information)
I know the rest of the story, but I'll hold off on that for now. I have been reviewing your tree -- it's great! There is an obvious pattern of intermarriages between the Millers, Hayeses and Gards. James Miller has to fit in there somewhere, but I can't figure it out. Apparently, you didn't either! There's a James Miller of the right age in Lawrenceburg, Dearborn, IN on the 1850 census, but he and a Sarah Miller, 2 years younger, are living in a household of many surnames. See Line 6
