Wade E. "Woody" Barnes
Wade E. 'Woody' Barnes, 79, of Cascade, a retired mechanic, died Monday at his home of cancer.
Graveside services were held at Highland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Peace
Hospice of Montana.
Born February 1, 1916, in Nez Perce, Idaho, he attended schools in Washington state and
in Highwood. In 1945 he joined the U.S.. Navy, serving on active duty and in the navy Reserve until being discharged in 1952. In 1937 he married Dorothy l. Burchett and they were divorced in 1948. In 1949 he married Shirley A. Reed in Lewistown; they divorced in 1994.
Barnes worked as a farm hand in this area, in construction and as a truck driver. He was a mechanic and welder for the Montana Department of Transportation for 15 years until an accident forced his retirement in 1974.
He served as a youth leader at Central Christian Church in Fort Benton. a volunteer camp
host in Idaho and as president of a motorcycle club. He was a past member of the Odd Fellows
and the mechanics' union.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.
Surviving are six daughters, Char Brogdon, Barbara Burns and Beverly Gittens, of Great Falls, Clarice Barnes of Kalispell, Bonnie Woods of Raleigh, N.C., and Wanita Parker of Crescent City. Calif.; a son Alton Barnes of Lewiston, ldaho; a brother, Ellis Barnes of Hardin, and 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
