THOMAS J. LONG

Thomas J. Long was born near Brownstown, Indiana, February 14th, 1844, and departed this life November 25th, 1917, at Russell, Iowa, aged 73 years, 9 months and 11 days.

He was united in marriage to Emily Grimes on May 17th, 1868. To this union were born five children, Elizabeth Hasselquist, of Wheatland, Wyoming, Laura Johnston, of Lucas county, Hattie Dale, of Wayne county, J. B. Long, of Montana, and Samuel R. Long, who departed this life July 13th, 1908.

He leaves to mourn their loss his aged wife, four children and one sister.

When young he was converted and united with the Christian church, of which he remained a faithful member. He was a kind father, a good neighbor and was always ready to help any one in need.

Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Russell, conducted by Rev. Taggart, assisted by Rev. Koser, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Russell cemetery.
