RUSSELL NEWS
At the age of 78 years, John A. Long died at the family home in this city Wednesday, Oct. 19, 1904 at 11:40 a.m. He was a victim of Bright's disease and for several days prior to his death remained in an unconscious state a good portion of the time.
The life of John Long was a long and honorable one. Born in North Carolina in 1826, he came to Iowa in 1853. He was married in 1850 to Mary M. Hall. This union was blessed with six children, five of whom with their widowed mother survive him. They are: I.N., Mrs. John Davis, John, A. L. and Mrs. Mattie Etter. Besides the wife and children he leaves to mourn his departure two brothers and one sister, Henry, Thomas and Mrs. Charles Noble.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m. at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. J. L. Johnson of Des Moines, former pastor of the deceased. Interment at Allen cemetery.
These sorrowing ones have the sympathy of the entire community in their great grief.
